The work that I have done the best annotations was on the article “The Empathy Diaries” by Sherry Turkle. In this article, I tried to focus on getting the main ideas of the different headings. For example, when Sherry Turkle was discussing the topic of “Generations” in her article, the first paragraph spoke to me. I approached this heading by asking the question, “What is she trying to say?” and after asking that question to the first paragraph of this heading I found that she is comparing two separate generations to one another. Another big thing that I annotate in my annotations is things that stick out to me and that really speak to me. I think that these are very important to highlight in your annotations because of the layers that the quotes can have. When you are highlighting one of these quotes based on the feel it gives you, that means it is speaking to you, and if you are able to harness the true meaning of that quote, it can be very vital to the strength of your essay. Quotes that speak to you can also be used to find deep connections to the text. I find that the best and most valuable annotations you can make are the ones that you can relate to. Relating to the text means that you feel a deeper connection to the work. And when you have his deep connection to the work, it is easier to draw from it and you can relate your own life to what the author is trying to say.
